Privacy and cookies

SleepSpectrum is an information-only website. This page explains, in plain terms, what the site stores and what it does not.

Last updated: 9 October 2026

Who runs this site

SleepSpectrum is written and run by Dr Mark Aszkenasy, a UK consultant community paediatrician. You can read more on the About page.

What we don’t collect

  • There are no accounts or logins.
  • There are no forms. The site doesn’t ask for your name, email address or any contact details.
  • The site doesn’t collect sleep notes, sleep diaries, or any health details about you or your child.

What’s stored in your browser

The site saves two small items in your browser’s local storage, so it remembers your choices. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.

  • ss-medical-disclaimer — saved as “understood” when you click “I understand” on the medical disclaimer, so it doesn’t appear on every visit.
  • ss-cookie-consent — saves your cookie choice: “accepted” if you choose “Accept analytics”, or “rejected” if you choose “Essential only”.

These stay until you clear your browser’s site data.

Google Analytics (only if you accept)

We use Google Analytics to see which pages are useful. It only loads if you choose “Accept analytics”. If you choose “Essential only”, or don’t make a choice, it isn’t loaded and no analytics cookies are set.

If you accept, Google Analytics (measurement ID G-61KLYC2HYD) sets cookies such as _ga and collects information such as the pages you visit, your device and browser type, and your rough location. This is linked to a random ID, not your name. Google processes this data and may do so outside the UK. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google’s privacy policy.

Changing your mind

You can change your cookie choice at any time. Use the button below, or the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page. This clears your saved choice and reloads the page, so you can choose again.

If you accepted analytics before, the Google Analytics cookies already in your browser stay until they expire. To remove them straight away, clear the cookies and site data for sleepspectrum.co.uk in your browser settings.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify. Like most web hosts, Netlify’s servers automatically keep technical logs of requests, such as your IP address, the page requested, your browser type and the time. These are used to deliver the site and keep it secure. See Netlify’s privacy policy.

Links to other websites

The site links to other websites, such as the NHS, NICE, charities, YouTube, app stores and Amazon. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Concerns

If you’re worried about how your information is used, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.
